Temperature affects the quality of finished products and the production cost in the application of the casting industry. At present, the foundry often chooses to use Infrared Thermometer to detect the temperature in each production process. The following is a talk about the main application of infrared thermometer in the casting industry. 1. Automobile brake disc casting process
Brake disc is an important part of automobile brake system. Its main manufacturing method is to get blank by casting, and then through grinding, polishing, drilling and other processes. Gray cast iron is widely used as the raw material of brake disc in production, which is poured after smelting. The temperature of molten iron should be accurately monitored during pouring. If the temperature is too high, the sand will swell, and the temperature is too low, it will produce pores, resulting in waste products. 2. Investment casting
The investment casting process, which produces complex, precision alloy parts, requires that the alloy be melted in a furnace and maintained at a constant temperature for some time before being poured into a preheated die. The usual practice is to allow the alloy to melt completely and then insert a thermocouple during constant temperature to confirm the temperature. If the temperature deviates from the desired temperature, the operator will manually adjust the power of the induction heater to the desired temperature. By installing two Endurance fiber-optic infrared thermometers in the furnace top aiming window, the number of thermocouples input is reduced and the induction heating power can be automatically controlled with the output of the infrared thermometers. Because the infrared thermometer temperature is read at the same time as the measurement, there is less concern about measurement inaccuracies due to changes in gas or other environmental conditions.

3. Automobile cylinder liner casting
In the process of centrifugal casting of automobile cylinder liner, the temperature of molten steel cast is about 1500 degrees. Before casting, the temperature of the inner wall of the mold should be controlled within the range of 350~450 degrees. Casting can be carried out only when the mold meets this requirement.
Automobile cylinder liner is a cross section diameter of about 15cm round centering casing, and in the actual mold temperature monitoring, we monitor the mold outer wall temperature to indirectly know the inner wall temperature control. Our design is to use STRON-SR-6016+ air purifier for monitoring, and install the probe about 20cm away from the outer wall of the mold, and cover a protective cover on the outside of the mold (between the thermometer and the rotating mold). According to the light path diagram, we make a hole about 1~2cm in diameter on the cover. There is an air vent above the cover, which is mainly because the strong water mist will be produced when the mold is sprayed with water for cooling. It is necessary to use an exhaust fan to extract the water mist through the air vent. The STRONG probe must be equipped with an air purifier, fixed to the outer wall of the protective box, to direct the temperature signal to the instrument box fixed nearby. At the same time, the instrument box is connected with 24VDC power supply and secondary display instrument, and the alarm can be realized when the temperature of the mold exceeds the process requirements by setting the temperature of the alarm point. In this way, we can monitor the temperature very well to assist the manufacture of car cylinder liner.


4. Casting mold
In casting applications, molten metal is poured into a mold to form the desired product. The mold needs to be controlled at the correct temperature level when entering the dump area of the plant. Poor preheating of the die can affect the dimensional accuracy grade of the casting, as well as the appearance quality of the casting, and may shorten the life of the die. The replacement of casting mold is expensive, and the life of mold is the key problem.
